designing a once-in-a-lifetime moment
the initial request was a form that resembled spider legs, which i had a lot of fun concepting. after further digestion, the decision was made to go after something more traditional.
i sent a few sketches conveying variations on basic form, and a favorite emerged of both bride and groom! we settled upon a purple finish and an art deco design language and after a one last draft I was ready to model the final product.
back to good old fashioned carpentry
for this build, Instead of sending files off for cnc cutting, I decided to spend the time to fabricate everything by hand using just a few selected small power tools, in order to reinforce a hand-made aesthetic. After cutting parts, I poured the epoxy for the channels, then used wood dye and polyurethane to achieve a unique purple finish.
